Our summers would not be complete without multiple trips to Bear Lake. My mom's family owns a cabin by Pickleville and Greg's family has some very generous friends who own a cabin by Laketown, so we are able to make many Bear Lake memories every summer. We always love spending a week at Bear Lake with Greg's family and their close friends. "The Crew" all started going to Bear Lake together when Greg was just a kid, so they have lots of fun stories and traditions.
Unfortunately, Greg had Scout Camp that week and wasn't able to join us, but the kids and I had a blast with Grandpa Willy and Grandma Jan. (Side note: I really should make Greg be a guest blogger and post about his delightful experiences camping with the Deacons (12-year-old boys from our Church). In his own words, he had a "HE%^ of a time.")
Back to Bear Lake...we had a HE^& of a time, too, but in a much different way. :) Garrett and Abbs loved playing with Atley. They spent all day, every day at the beach catching frogs.
Garrett just needed a little break...chasing frogs is hard work, you know.
This was so funny/cute. Somebody was backing a trailer in and Garrett joined in on the guiding. It was serious business to him. Won't he make a great missionary someday?
The kids loved jumping on the tramp! Of course, we heard the story of Greg landing face-down on the springs while doing a flip and getting his mouth and lips all cut up by his braces. I laugh every time. We also heard about the time Eric joined in the dodgeball game by chucking a croquet ball at a poor, unsuspecting kid. I also laugh every time.
Garrett was jumping on the tramp with this bucket when Abby got on and decided she wanted it. She went to grab it from him and he raised it to hit her, but stopped before he did it. (Sibling love is great, isn't it?) I called out to him and he paused, looked at all of us, made a funny face, and then put it on his head. Everybody laughed and somebody said, "Now that is a Phillips boy." Jan replied, "At least the second generation is better than the first. My boys would have smacked their sister first and then put the bucket on their head." You would have to know Greg's brothers to really appreciate the story, but we all got a good chuckle.
Don't you love these little bathing beauties? I hope we are still going to Bear Lake together when they are teenagers.
The kids missed the water so much when we got home that we had to spend some quality time in our awesome pool. Best prize ever! (See previous post.)
Nothing is as good as Bear Lake or ever will be, but our deck is a pretty close second. :)
