The Big 3-1!

Happy Birthday to Greg!!! We celebrated with a little cake and ice cream with family on Sunday. Greg isn't so big on being the center of attention, but he was a good sport. Greg LOVES carrot cake, so I made my first ever attempt at making one from scratch. (I was so tempted just to buy one.) I told Greg his birthday present was that I made it "full-fat" and didn't try any low-fat substitutes like I usually do. It almost killed me to dump the the full cup and a half of oil in there, but I did it anyways. That's true love. I could almost feel my pants getting tighter and Greg's arteries clogging. I figure the 3 full cups of fresh carrots balance it all out, right? Greg's little brother, Eric, took one bite and said, "Nat, you should put the fat back into everything. This is really good." Thanks Eric!

Notice how old the birthday boy is. Nice decorating, huh?

Greg's mom brought her signature lemon poppyseed cake and I had also made Chocolate Chip Zucchini cupcakes (great recipe from my newly won cookbook), so we had plenty of goodness. My sister-in-law, Sher, made this "sampler platter" for the birthday boy. It consisted of a generous piece of each cake, a cupcake, and a grundle of ice cream. We all laughed because Sher is a dietician and a Physician's Assistant for a cardiologist--translation = very healthy eater.
The G-Man enjoyed getting in on the action and enjoyed his own "sampler platter." Greg gave Garrett a cup of Diet Coke and said, "It's my birthday so he can have it." I opted not to argue.

Today (his actual birthday) has been a great day! We haven't done anything super extravagant, but have just enjoyed being together. The biggest (and probably best) birthday surprise came from our teenage neighbor/friend Braden. We had a bunch of baled hay in the field that needed to be hauled and stacked. Greg and I were out running errands/partying, and when we got home, Braden had hauled and stacked the hay all by himself as a birthday present for Greg. (A big job!) What a great kid--that's what we're hoping our Garrett will grow up to be like.
P.S. Seriously so awesome that Greg happens to share a birthday with TAMN. What a huge honor! (If you read "Seriously, So Blessed" you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, you should start.)

Happy Birthday to Derksworld- I am just realizing that I forgot to send him a text. I thought about it a million and times and kept forgetting- give him my love. That is so cute that Braden did all that hard work for Derk- what a kid!

What a nice neighbor boy. I am impressed. I think you should put the fat back into everything too, I would always get so ticked when Heidi would try to substitute things. It just doesn't taste as good (you just can't think about it)

Hope he had a happy day - way nice of Braden. I'm glad the cake worked out - some things just need fat!

So, you have alot going on. Happy Birthday Gregory! AND, congrats on the baby girl! Can I tell you I am REALLY jealous (well, maybe 80% jealous and 20% happy for you). Also, WHEN CAN WE GET TOGETHER? I am sick of saying we will put something together. Let's make it happen before the holidays get here and things get insane!

I am queen of justifying everything on my birthday, so I know where Greg is coming from on the soda... at least these aren't Garrett's permanent teeth!
