Fireworks and Asparagus

We were at the grocery store a few weeks ago when Garrett saw the fireworks display and about fell out of the cart trying to check them out. We got a small package and every night we just kept putting off doing them for one reason or another. It occurred to me the other night that it was the last legal day for fireworks. Of course, Greg was working late that night and wasn't going to be home for awhile, but I kept the kids awake and we got everything set up and ready to go. The kids waited as patiently as they could in their little camp chairs and as soon as Greg got home, we lit up the sky like the 24th of July. Nice line, huh?

As if our wild fireworks display wasn't enough, we added another "pet" to the family farm last week. Greg's been looking for the right calf for awhile, and found one the other day and brought it home for "the kids." He was telling Garrett about it and asked Garrett what we should name the calf. Garrett was thinking about it, but hadn't come up with anything yet, so Greg suggested to Garrett we could name the cow "Meatloaf." (Hahahaha.) Garrett perked right up and said, "No, let's name it Asparagus." Greg and I tried not to laugh and suggested a few other options, but Garrett was absolutely set on Asparagus and wasn't budging, so Asparagus it is. We now have Airplane the Horse and Asparagus the Cow, thanks to Garrett's excellent name-selecting abilities. We can't wait to see what names he comes up with for our grandchildren one day...

Our neighbors run a nice dairy farm and have been great to let us keep Asparagus there for awhile. Garrett and Abby love to visit and help take care of her and the other calves.

Speaking of calves, Garrett is getting pretty good at roping this little steer. It has become his new favorite toy and he hooks his tractor, fire engine, dump truck, (pretty much anything with wheels) up to it and drags it all over the house.

This picture is classic Abby. We had just come home from church and Garrett's pajama pants were still lying on the living room floor. (Sunday mornings get a little crazy around our house sometimes.) Abby just had to put them on and did not want any help. She struggled with them for a good five minutes before she finally let Greg help her put her legs in and then she pulled them up. She is also obsessed with her "teef" (toothbrushes) and has to have at least one in her possession at all times. Garrett's dump truck is her favorite toy and she loves to ride it all around the house and say "beep, beep." We've got our hands full with this little gal!
