As most of you know, I had decided not to return to work this year and have been so excited about it! Well, I got an interesting phone call from my old principal yesterday and have decided to return to school after all. She said that I was the most amazing teacher they had ever had and she offered to pay me 1 million dollars if I would please return and grace them with my presence.
Just kidding...a part-time teacher they had hired to teach English is pregnant and has toxemia and has been put on bedrest, so they are desperate for a teacher to start the school year until this lady has her baby and returns to school. It is only a part-time position, so my first class doesn't start until 10:30 and I can leave as soon as school is out at 2:40. I will teach through the first trimester at the very most, which ends in November. It all just depends on how early they have to take this teacher's baby. My principal had even called the lady who baby-sat her kids (who turned out to be one of my mom's good friends) and made arrangements for her to help with Garrett if we need it.
This should make for an interesting month or two! I was really looking forward to staying home, but I think of how good everyone at school was to help me when I was pregnant and I want to help. My principal arranged for me to have a student teacher during the final months of my pregnancy so I could get ready for my maternity leave, be off my feet more and just have less stress all around! When Greg got sick and Garrett came early, everyone at school really worked hard to pull everything together for me. My principal even visited me in the hospital to make sure I was okay and see how she could help. I have been so lucky to work with such great people! The next few months will be crazy, but it will hopefully go by quickly and then my "retirement" can really begin!

Awe ya gotta love Terri! I went to Terrals when I was little too...she's fabulous...little Gussie would just love her!! That stinks you have to go back to school though...yuck!
That is crazy that you have to go back to school! It is no fun leaving cute babies, even for a second. But, it seems like a nice little deal for awhile. You and Greg can now be rich and buy anything you want!! :)
All these crazy coincidences! Sounds like things are just falling into place!
Well, at least you enjoyed the idea while it lasted....it won't be long...you are so nice to help out when you are needed!!!
I heard about this on Saturday from Tara and was so surprised since when we talked on Wednesday you were so excited you weren't going back. Things sure change quickly. It's so nice of you to help them out. Hopefully Mom will bounce back quick from her surgery because I know she would love to help tend Garrett.
Fun for you!! I think ALL teachers should receive a gold star or something for having to put up with our youth of today!! I've been in schools and want to pull my hair out because SOME kids can be so rotten. You are probably one of those great teachers that all the kids change their schedule so they can have you!! I'll watch Garrett for you while you go to work ~ that would be a convenient drive, huh? Have fun!!
I was really eating that up at first....interesting call...the most amazing teacher. I believed that! But then I read the $1 million and I thought that's a little too lucky! Oh well..it sounds like a pretty good arrangement..a you'll probably appreciate Garrett even more, if you possibly can!
That sounds fun, Nat! What a pleasant surprise (for you, not for the teacher you're replacing)! Hopefully, it won't be too hard to leave little Garrett--but at least it won't last too long! Way to go!
I would almost believe the story about the $1 million incentive...if you lived in Wyoming! :) But I did believe the part that you were the best teacher they ever had.
