Let's just say it's been a long couple of weeks for our little crew! Garrett started showing the signs of a cold about two weeks ago. As all parents know, there's not a whole lot the doctors can do for kids with colds, so we just kept hoping he would get better. After about 5 days passed and his congestion and cough started getting worse, we made an appointment to see the doctor the next day. Garrett woke up at about midnight and had broken out in a rash. It was our first rash experience, so Greg and I were a little bit freaked out. We called Greg's brother, Mike, who will graduate from medical school this spring and he told us what to watch for but said Garrett would most likely be fine until his appointment the next morning. Garrett went back to bed and slept great, but still had the rash when he woke up. We took him to the doctor and I was kind of surprised when she told us he had an ear infection--but relieved because at least it was something they could diagnose and treat. They gave us a prescription for amoxicillin and sent us home. The next morning, Garrett broke out in ANOTHER rash which looked different from the one he had the previous day. To make a long story short, we finally ended up switching antibiotics and after being on the $50 antibiotic for a week, Garrett is finally starting to feel better. Today was the first day that I felt like he was back to his old self. It's nice to have my little mess-maker back! (I forgot to mention that both Greg and I were sick during all of this, so we would take turns resting and taking care of Garrett. There were a couple of pretty rough days!)
Mike has been home since Christmas and was flying back to Milwaukee on Sunday, so we decided we were feeling well enough to drive to SLC and meet up with Greg's family for dinner. We had a wonderful visit and dinner at the Macaroni Grill, but all 3 of us were totally exhausted when we got home. I thought this picture of Mike and Garrett was cute!
We joined my family on Sunday for a little Super Bowl fun. We were all hoping the Cardinals could pull out the upset, but it wasn't meant to be. Oh well--at least I could drown my sorrows in Pauline's rice pudding, Marlee's chocolate chip cheese ball (to die for), Jan's brownie mousse cups, Paula's cheesecake pie, and Chelsea's cream cheese brownies. (We put the Andersons (and Chelsea) in charge of dessert and they certainly didn't disappoint!) I was obviously too busy putting on the pounds to take many pictures, but did get a few.
Brooklyn got the baby lotion and gave Garrett a new "do." These pictures really don't do it justice, but it was pretty hilarious.

I am so glad you are all feeling better! I love Garrett's new hair do, it's a keeper :)
I HATE it when my kids are sick, but then I keep thinking how they are building up their immune system (got to stay positive)!
POOR SPARKY is he feeling better?
That poor boy! That's been quite awhile since I last saw you and he was sick. I'm glad he's doing better, but he is not alone. Pediatrician offices are bustin at the seams right now. Wash your hands lots and lots!
Sorry to hear you all have been sick. I'm glad I read the blogs once in a while. Glad you're doing better so you be fit as fiddles for family dinner next week. How is your dad doing?
